Why the law?
By way of a brief introduction my name is Kim Mapperson. I have always wanted to work in
law. I started my career in law working as an office junior in Newcastle-under-Lyme. I loved
the atmosphere of a law firm and I really wanted to become a solicitor. This is where it all
started. I continued to work in law firms as a legal secretary whilst studying part time. I
then ‘bit the bullet’ and commenced a 2-year law degree at Staffordshire University. This
was a full law degree course condensed into 2 years meaning no holidays or breaks (or too
many student union nights)!

Upon completion of my law degree I started a Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in
Manchester. This was a course I completed part-time whilst working as a Paralegal in a law
firm in Manchester. I really enjoyed gaining more experience in family law, as this is what I
had chosen to specialise in! I completed my LPC with a commendation.

My role
I started working for Onions & Davies solicitors in 2016. I now practice in all areas of family
law. I specialise in divorce and financial matters and Children Act Proceedings. I have a
practical and fair approach to family matters and am compassionate to the circumstances of
each individual case.

I am the firm’s Armed Forces Co-Ordinator and provide the firm’s link with the armed forces,
and I have been integral in signing Onions & Davies Ltd up to the Pledge we gave to the
Armed Forces, which includes offering a 10% discount on our legal services to members of
the forces, their spouses and veterans. Onions & Davies have just achieved silver status in
the Employer Recognition Scheme which is a great achievement.

I run our Wednesday Family Law clinic which offers 15 minutes free information and
guidance for those who are looking for legal help with a family law issue such as separation,
divorce, finances or children. This clinic is very popular and enables local people to access a
solicitor in the first instance for free in order to better understand their next best steps.

If I can be of assistance in any family matter, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01630 411226.
