Family Law Practitioners, and the Law Society, have lobbied the government for additional investment in the Family Court system, in an attempt to mitigate the impact of the Court’s backlog on children.
Recent statistics show that a staggering 80,000 children are currently caught up in private law children proceedings. In 2022, the average case duration for a private law children matter was almost 45 weeks.
“Court delays often leads to an increase in tensions between parties, which in turn has an additional negative impact on the child or children that are the subject matter of the dispute between their respective parents. The current delays and underinvestment in the Family Court System is of great concern to many family law practitioners, and the government needs to take action, immediately, in the form of additional investment”.
