What is the ‘Forces Help to Buy’ scheme?

The Forces Help to Buy scheme (FHTB) is designed to help Armed Forces personnel get on the property ladder and buy their first home, move to another property on assignment or due to other unprecedented circumstances.

The FHTB scheme allows regular servicemen and servicewomen to borrow up to 50% of their salary, interest free, to a maximum of £25,000.

Who is eligible?

The scheme only applies to regular Armed Forces personnel who:

Z
have completed the pre-requisite length of service
Z

have more than 6 months left to serve at the time they apply

Z
meet the right medical categories

Please note that the succession of your application is subject to circumstance and even if you do not meet all three of the requirements, there may be some exceptions to what has been outlined.

How to apply

If you are a regular service personnel, you can submit an application online through the Joint Personnel Administration System (JPA). Your Chain of Command and agency will be familiar with this scheme who can guide you through the application process.
